News: March Updates

Saturday 20th March, 2010

Site updates, new gear and upcoming releases.

If you've been watching my tweets you will have known that my new laptop finally arrived! Yay! I also acquired some new BlueSky monitors (including sub) so now I can finally retire the old HiFi speakers I was using.

As well as familiarising myself with the new speakers (with other people's music), over the last month I have been spending quite a lot of time doing maintenance on the site. This was mainly spurred on by the fact that Blogger decided to drop support for FTP publishing (which was powering the News & Updates page) which meant I had to switch over to using WordPress. The other big update is that the music pages are now getting their data direct from SoundCloud, which means I don't have to do everything twice anymore (I also have plans to upgrade the audio-enhanced pages at some point in the future).

With the site updates almost complete, I can now concentrate on getting some new music out there. Currently I am working on the Karori Freestyle project:

With our lease coming up for renewal in January, we decided to move to sunny Hataitai. I decided to make an audio diary of our flat in Karori before we left. The Karori Freestyle project combines live ambient recordings, buddha machines, the sounds of cooking, and some freestyle 'beatboxing'. Currently there are nine distinct tracks, ranging from house to techno to downbeat to ambient. I'm aiming for a release date of May 1 2010 - watch this site or my SoundCloud page for updates, or sign up to my RSS feed for the latest as it happens.

Cheers,
Dan
