Despite getting some production hardware sorted in 2010, it's been a slow year emotionally and music-wise, and I'm now a solo artist in more ways than one.
The NZ Music Month mix slated for May 2010 didn't eventuate, as I got hung up on the sonics. But I will get it out this year, in all of it's muddy glory.
In 2010 I bought and loved Maschine, then in 2011 I learned it's limitations. And through these trials and tribulations I started and finished a Found Sound remix for a very patient UK artist - details to follow when a release date is announced.
In January I moved into a city-fringe flat with another music lover. It's a pretty solid building (EQP rating notwithstanding) but our neighbours are probably still coming to terms with our love of sub-bass heavy electronica.
In February I expanded my musical horizons at CALH, and learned of the diverse musical talent in Wellington.
Today I kicked off a soundtrack for a short animation that a friend is hoping will make him famous. My young nephews have graciously supplied some vocal snippets on the proviso that I make them famous.
Outside the weather is cooling and in lieu of other distractions I am hoping to be in a productive and creative space this winter.
To that end I hope to get a regular monthly mix done, of whatever is on the hard drive at the time, and post this to either Soundcloud or Mixcloud.
But maybe I shouldn't get ahead of myself. After all, it has been a year since my last post...
